His Excellency Sri Rameswar Thakur, Governor of Karnataka was the chief guest at the thanks giving  ceremony. 31 Schools of Bangalore participated in the glittering function. Ms V Likhita was the highest collector of donations from DAV School. The oxford public school got the awrd for the highest collection of funds among all schools. Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandra, President/NAB-KB presided over the function.Ms Usha Rani, Fund Raising department compered the entire program. Mr BS Prithviraj Hon. Gen. Cisco day of Service

About 40 Cisco employees including Mr Vishal Guptha, Vice President, Mr Datta Subrahmanya & Mr Akshai Mallappa, Manager GSP participated in a funfilled program at Cubbon park. About 20 trainees and 4 mobility training staff,Admin officer & CEO also participated.A quiz program was also conducted by our Hon.Gen Secretary Mr BS Prithviraj. In the afternoon session the trainees went round the amusement park & had a jolly ride in the toy train. Ms Neetha Bassi  & Ms Molly Joeman had made all the arrangements to make it a grand success.

It is with profound regret that we note the passing away of Dr K.R. Murthy, Director, Vittala International Institute of Opthalmology, Bangalore

this morning. He had been the prime mover of the  Nayana & Jyothi Projects with which NAB-KB was closely associated for over a decade. He leaves behind his wife Mrs Bhagya Murthy & sons Praveen, Krishna & Vinay. May his soul rest in peace.

Seminar VITAL-2008 (Visually Impaired Technology Assimilation & Learning) sponsored by IEEE & IETE was inaugurated by Dr K.R. Murthy, Director, Vittala International Institute of Opthalmology, Bangalore at the NAB-KB campus. The function was presided over by Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandra, President, NAB-KB. Mr H. Ramakrishna, Former Exec. Director, BEL & GC member of NAB-KB delivered the key note address. Mr Haridas of NAB-KB, welcomed the delegates , guests & other dignitaries.There were 8 papers presented on the occasion. The paper presenters were Mr Ajay Gupta of HP Labs on “Enhancement to the computers to Aid the Blind”, Dr MH Kori of Alcatel-Lucent Technologies on “Additional application for Mobile Phones” , Ms Shilpi Kedia of Barrier Break Technologies on "Assistive Technologies Available",Ms Rekha Ashok of BEL on “GPS for the Blind”, Dr OM Deshpande of IBM on “IBM’s Efforts in Assistive Technology”, Ms Mitra of NAB-KB on "Technology needs & NAB-KB 's initiative", Dr AG Ramakrishnan of IISc, Bangalore on “Text to speech”, Mr Rudrakshi of Samsung on “Mobile phones & applications for the Blind”, Mr Shyam Kedare of NEIL on "NEIL Technology".  An exhibition was also held on this occasion. M/s BEL, APD, IETE, IEE, NAB-KB had displayed their products/publications.Lunch was hosted by M/s BEL. Mr M. Srinivas, CEO/NAB-KB proposed the vote of thanks. The Rustom Merwanji Alpaiwalla award for outstanding services in the Voluntary category was awarded to our President Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandran at a glittering function held at the NAB(I) premises, Mumbai. A blood donation camp was organized by Rotary Hanumanthnagar & Rashtriththana Blood Bank at NAB-KB. About 20 volunteers donated blood. The Rotary team was lead by its President Mr N Ravindranath. The Asst Governor of Rotary Dist 3190, Mr Amarnath presided over the function. Film actress Ms Smitha also participated in the deliberations.

January 19th is celebrated as an occasion for appreciating the generous and dedicated contribution of Rustom Merwanji Alpaiwalla, the Founder President of NAB, India, by presenting awards to individuals for their outstanding contribution to the field of Blind Welfare.

Two individuals, each, in the category of Professional Work and Voluntary Work are presented the award on an all India basis. Over the years 94 individuals from different parts of India, 47 each in the Professional and the Voluntary category have received these awards for their contribution in:

18 Engineers from Cisco visited NAB-KB today as a part of their CSR program. They spent over 5 hrs going through all departments of NAB & also tried moving with blind folds using white cane. Mr Sundararaja Rao President of  Rotary Midtown, Mysore presided over the function. The invocation was by two blind students. Ms Jija Madhavan Hari Singh, IPS was the chief guest at  a glittering ceremony held at NAB-KB to thank the School Children who mobilised funds for the Blind welfare. !9 schools represented by their HeadMasters/Principals,Class teachers & children participated in the simple ceremony. Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandra, presided. Ms Jija exhorted children to learn to live in the present & not to worry about the past or future. Mr BS Prithviraj Hon Gen Secy proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Usha Rani, our Finance Raising Officer did the compering & co-ordinated the whole show.

The 4th Car rally for the Blind was flagged off at an impressive ceremony held at the Mount Carmel College premises. 28 cars participated. The rally was sponsored by M/S MPHASIS & organised jointly by National Association for the Blind, Kreatives, Trident Hyundai, Channel 97.2, Right Angle,FMSC, KMSC,DS MAX. at 1030 hrs.The route was 55 Kms long. There was a cultural program  in the afternoon by St Josephs college & Christ college students. There was also a magic show by Mr Gururaj. Prizes were distributed by Ms Minu Bhambani of MphasiS & Dr(Mrs)Saroja Ramachandra-President NAB-KB.

NAB KB in association with Vittala International Institute of Opthalmology launched its new project “JYOTHI” on 13th July 2007 at Angala, Gundulpet Taluk, Chamarajnagar District. Free eye screening was done in the event. 250 persons were screened, among them 54 were identified and brought to Vittala Eye International, Bangalore for Cataract Surgeries. 53 persons were successfully operated for cataract. Dr(Mrs)Saroja Ramachandran presided. Dr K.R. Murthy of VIIO graced the occasion. The Founder's day celebrations were held today. Ms Sindhu Cauveriappa, Manager, Community Relations, Intel Technologies India Ltd was the Chief Guest & gave away the prizes to the winners of various competetions.. Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandran President/NAB-KB, presided over the function. Among important guests were Dr Ajay Patwardhan, Chairman Bangalore Council GE Volunteers & Medical Director GE India, Mr Rakesh of GE Elfun & Dr Ramesh. Mr M Srinivas welcomed the guests. Dr(Mrs) Saroja Ramachandran gave detailed account of how NAB-KB started by the devoted couple Mrs Ratna Atmarama Rao & Mr Atmaramarao in 1977 has now grown into a mammoth organisation & has been serving the blind in Karnataka relentlessly for the past 3 decades. She appealed for public support & help both physically & financially so that the Vision 2020 goal of eliminating all cases of preventable blindness by the year 2020. Ms Sindhu Cauveriappa, in her address said that it was wonderful to come to NAB & be among the visually impaired & give them a helping hand. In a recent camp organised by Intel the volunteers enjoyed their stay at NAB for 8 hrs & wanted to come back & extend their helping hand. Intel has motivated young employees to serve the underprivileged under their Corporate Social Responsibility policy. She would be keen to see that Intel's partnership with NAB grew closer & stronger. Mr BS Prithviraj Hon Gen Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. This was followed by songs, mimicry, drama, mouth organ by the staff & trainees of NAB-KB, which was enjoyed by all. A team of young HR professionals lead by Mr Deepank, Head/HR dept of Intel visited NAB & spent the whole day with the trainees of NAB. They had organised a cricket match , musical chair, singing etc. A good lunch was also hosted by them. Mr Deepank distributed mementos to all trainees & staff. At the end of the day they all felt that they could use their spare time in helping out the trainees at NAB & looked forward to more such get togethers.

All staff members, Managing Committee members & Governing Council members wished her "A Very Happy Birthday" at brief cake cutting session held at NAB-KB premises. Mrs KN Shobha read out a beautiful poem she had written about our president to everyone's delight.

Parama Pujya Shri Shri Nimishananda Guruji presided over the Thanks giving ceremony held at the NAB premises. 37 School children along with their Headmasters/Principals/Class teachers participated in the glittering event. The highest honour was given to Ms  Anusha Kamath of Innisfree School, who had collected Rs 18,001. Dr (Mrs) Saroja Ramachandra, President welcomed the chief guest. Guruji in his address exhorted that all human beings have to develop a sense of sharing & caring. God was within every human being. Physical vision is not necessary to establish contact with the God. He also went round various departments of NAB-KB & evinced keen interest in all the activities.He also taught the mantra "Om Divya Drustyayainamaha" to the trainees & asked them that they should chant this mantra twice daily for about 15 minutes.Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr BS Prithviraj , Hon. Gen Secretary. The entire function was organised very efficiently & co-ordinated by Ms Usha Rani of Fund Raising Dept of NAB-KB

Mr Gordon Faife resigns as CEO due to health reasons with effect from 30 Dec 2006. He had served NAB for over 25 years ; initially as Employment officer & later as Chief Executive Officer. The Managing committee of NAB-KB places on record the excellent services rendered by him in the field of Blind Welfare & wishes him & his Family all the very best in life.

 

Mr H.S. Ravikumar, Senior Faculty, Computer Training Dept has resigned due to better prospects elsewhere with effect from 30 Dec 2006. The Managing Committee wishes Mr Ravi a very bright future in his new chosen career.
